Despite the popularity of PDF documents, Windows doesn't offer anything by default for creating such documents. If you wish to save your documents in PDF format, you can do it as easily as possible with deskPDF Creator. It allows you to convert text files and images from any Windows-based application, through a virtual printer. What's more, the application provides a wide range of output options for your PDF files.

deskPDF Creator is free to try for a limited period of time, but without any functionality restrictions. It takes about a minute to install the application and you can make a few tweaks during the process, like including optional PS interpreters, MS Word integration and more. The application can be used on Windows XP, Vista and Win 7 and it is also available for Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Lion.

There are several methods of converting a file to PDF. You can either hit the Print option in any application and select deskPDF Creator as your default printer or you can launch the application through an executable and load the file you wish to convert, on a compact user interface. Regardless of which method you choose, the application will display a Save As dialog, with advanced options. Besides naming your PDF and selecting a destination folder, you can also decide to save the document as a PostScript file and set the application to perform an additional action, like attaching the output file to an email or sharing it on PDFzen.

You can expand the aforementioned dialog, to reveal a series of advanced options, on several tabs. The application allows you to specify the output document's title, subject, author and add keywords, password-protect the file and set up restrictions, rotate its pages, set up an output quality and more. If you are satisfied with your settings, you only need to click a button and the application will generate your PDF or PS file in just a few seconds. If a document with the same name already exists in the output folder, the application will warn you and you may overwrite the file, but you can also merge the new document with the existing one.

Pros

You may convert text documents and images to PDF in just a few seconds. deskPDF Creator works with any application that supports printing. The software allows you to make various output settings and it can also merge documents, instead of renaming them.

Cons

deskPDF Creator doesn't work on Windows 8. With deskPDF Creator, it doesn't take anything more than a few clicks to create PDF documents from any text file or image.
